Oh hey hey hey!
How have you felt this week? Maybe one big thing happened that triggered a lot of emotions? Maybe it’s been a pretty smooth sail? Either way, never underestimate the strength it has taken for you to get through this week with a smile on your face. You’re doing good, remember that!

Season: 1, Episode: 3
We want to go back a little bit to episode 2 of the podcast. The joy with our podcast is that no episode ever goes out of date. Our episodes have no order or rules because we feel all kinds of emotions everyday. There is no rules or patterns to our emotions either.
This episode was all about grieving. Leah was joined by two of her amazing friends, Jesse and Gus who are founders of @shoutoutbereavementuk.
A social enterprise dedicated to raising awareness for child bereavement through building a community.
In this episode of Checkmates Podcast we talk about all things Grief, the personal journeys these boys have been through losing a parent, and what they are now doing to ensure everyone has support in their own journeys. This episode is not one to miss, it's raw and emotional but I hope it touches you the way it did me when recording this. And as always get comfy, find a cup of tea and a quiet place, and let this episode remind you that you are never alone.
A Note from Ailis:
This week I wanted to focus on the theme of habit making. Now I know, that sentence can seem a little underwhelming, but I am a newly turned believer that positive change in our life can be created by slightly adapting our routines.
This Weeks Inspiration!
What inspired this week’s theme was finishing the book Atomic Habits by James Clear! In this book James Clear shares his approach to habit building, endorsing his strategies on some of the best ways to begin achieving personal goals and maintaining positive mental health! The book has been avidly talked about since its release, and I would recommend giving it further research.
Ailis’ New Habit
Recently I have been trying to form a new habit of listening to at least 10 minutes of a podcast each morning. It’s the perfect way to wake up my brain and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. One podcast I have been loving (apart from our own 😉) is Bryony Gordon’s Mad World. Mad World is hosted by author and journalist, Bryony Gordon and was recommended to me by our founder Leah!
Here’s what Leah had to say about the podcast…
“Each week Bryony speaks to a different guest about what mental health means to them and how it has affected their lives. Each week is a very laid-back, chatty conversation making you feel relaxed. She starts each podcast with the question: ‘How are you, really?’, which is the question we should all be asking more. The biggest thing to take away from this podcast is that ‘feeling weird is the most normal thing in the world’.”
I agree Leah!

A note from our founder, Leah.
