Hello November!
Here at Checkmates HQ, we hope you are having a great week! It’s finally November, that time of year when the trees lose their leaves and the temperature starts to drop. But don’t worry! This only means that is acceptable for cosy sweaters and spending all of your money on hot drinks!
A Note from Ailis:
This week I want to focus on stress! Why? Well, it is International Stress Awareness Week! With 74% of people reported as unable to cope with the large amounts of stress in their lives, finding ways to manage stress is important. Let’s look into this a bit more together!
So… What are the Common Causes of Stress?
According to Mind, big life changes, work responsibilities and school pressure can all trigger stress.
So how can we manage this?
Everyone experiences stress in different ways. What might be enjoyable for you, may trigger stress in someone else. One way to approach stress management can be to identify what recurring events are causing the stress. Another tactic can be to start organising your day. Start making lists so you can see what you need to achieve each day (but remember to also scribble in time for rest!)

Ollie Ollerton Interview
Ollie Ollerton is best known for the show SAS: Who Dares Wins. Due to experiences faced while working in the military, Ollerton suffers from PTSD. He does not allow this to hold him back however as he has used his mental health struggles to help others, particularly through hosting workshops that focus on stress management.
Linked above is an interview Ollerton took part in back in 2020. It is a long one, but there are a lot of good moments that focus on how he has made stress work for him rather than against him. I recommend checking it out!
Well, there we go, a little weekly round-up for you. We hope you had a good start to the week, enjoy the rest, and stay connected.
If you would like to submit an article or small note for the next edition of Check-in you can contact us at Hiya@mycheckmates.co.uk :)
Remember… When it feels like you can’t win, check in with a mate!
