Hello hello!
@risedesignandshine
From everyone at Checkmates HQ, we hope you are having a relaxing week! It is time for our bi-weekly catch-up and this week we’re talking all things mental health (surprise surprise?!)
We have all had a slightly different week since “Freedom Day” in the UK- and slightly different opinions on the whole idea too. Is this the start of our new life living with Covid or are we destined for Lockdown 4.0…?
A Note from Ailis:
Hello everyone, I hope this week has been treating you well so far! In this newsletter, I wanted to share with you guys two amazing online mental health courses that I and the team have found.
Who says learning ever ends?
The Science of Well-Being
Now, this course is definitely one of my personal favourites!
Last spring, when the world shut down, I found myself at a low point with my mental health. However, one night, while wrapped up in bed binging my way through YouTube, I discovered The Science of Well-Being!
The course is run by Yale Professor Laurie Santos, and is completely free! Not only is Laurie super engaging to listen to, but she teaches her students how to successfully incorporate wellness activities into their lives.
Over 3.5 million people have already enrolled and tried the class out, so why not see for yourself what the hype is about? Click below to be redirected to the course page, I swear you won’t regret it!
Speaking of Wellness…
One wellness technique you might see mentioned often in these newsletters is meditation!
With the rise of mainstream apps such as Headspace and Waking Up, it is no surprise that there has been an increase in mindfulness meditation classes online.
One that we think looks great is MINDFULNESS MEDITATION with Jack Kornfield. He aims to teach you skills such as:
Sitting and walking meditation
Eating with mindfulness
The acknowledgement of thoughts & feelings without getting caught in them
And compassion cultivation

Did you know…?
The number of people practicing meditation has more than tripled since 2012?
