Hey! Happy September! As always, we are super excited to share our newsletter with you, but first, let’s have a little catch-up on what’s been happening behind the scenes.
Over the past two weeks at Checkmates HQ we have been working hard to give our social media accounts a fancy new makeover. Have a look and check out our Instagram page, and also make sure to say hi to our new Tiktok!
A Note from Ailis:
Since we all spend so much time on our phones, this week I want to have a look at how we can adapt our phone habits to support ourselves rather than work against us!
This week’s content has been inspired by Rowena Tsai’s amazing YouTube video on phone productivity! Check that video out HERE.
Task Switching?
@kristenpoissantstudio
What is task switching? Well, here is a quick explanation!
Task switching can be understood as another name for multitasking. A good thing to master, right? Well, research has shown that throwing your attention from one task to another in quick succession may actually be making you feel more sluggish rather than productive!
It might seem like you are accomplishing multiple things at the same time, but what you are really doing is quickly shifting your attention and focus from one thing to the next. Switching from one task to another may make it difficult to tune out distractions and can cause mental blocks that can slow you down.
@verywellmind
No one likes to feel overwhelmed, but that’s exactly what can happen when deciding to take on so many different tasks at once!
But Why Am I Telling You This?
Well, when on our phones, we are constantly stimulated by different apps and notifications, causing involuntary task switching! That is why sometimes we can feel so tired and unmotivated after a long time of scrolling.
Click the link below to read more on how to prevent this feeling. It can be as easy as changing the layout on your home screen!
Body Positive Instagrammers
@mellyemclark
Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world with over a billion accounts signed up. The average person spends 28 minutes on Instagram each day, however, a lot of the time the content we take in on social media can negatively affect our self-image more than support.
@teravector
Below I have linked some self-love and body positive accounts on Instagram that I think are great to follow. Make the time that you spend scrolling on Instagram time to absorb confidence and remember that your body is amazing!

Well, there we go, a little weekly round-up for you. We hope you had a good start to the week, enjoy the rest (even if the weather is miserable!), and stay connected.
